Wow, I had no idea how messed up the legal system is around common-law and same-sex families with regard to title.

So sad to hear the story of Rosa Becker.

Hi Dane,

There is so much confusion and misinformation available. The current system is designed to be 'generically' useful, but is usually problematic when you don't fit in to a cookie cutter family-type (it is often problematic even when you do!).

I agree with you, the Rosa Becker story is a sad and dramatic story. The moral of the tale (for me, at least) is to get your paperwork in order while things are great – no matter if the relationship is one with parents, partners, spouses, or friends.
