Five short years ago, the only reason most people were driving by the corner of Cherry and Mill streets was to get to a Toronto landmark, the Canary Restaurant.  As great as the Canary was, I don't think it was the type of landmark that Toronto's HomeBuying market was looking for.  Thanks to an ambitious goal to restore Toronto's Distillery District, the corner of Cherry and Mill is not only the heart of a new Toronto neighbourhood, it is the site of one of our city's newer condominium developments - Clear Spirit.

Clear Spirit is to be built in the southeast corner of the Distillery District. The developers behind the project are Cityscape and Dundee. The condominium is designed by the team at architectsAlliance (MoZo, Pier 27).

Clear Spirit, a 30-storey building with 274 suites, has a scheduled occupancy date of June 2010.  The initial rendering, above, shows the Clear Spirit building, left, along with a proposed second condo. The Clear Spirit project also includes a small four-storey building with courtyard suites located just in front of the tower.

The plans for the building appear to have been upgraded since the rendering.  The current design now features balconies which wraparound the entire building on every floor.

All of the building's amenities will be located in a separate building just south of the tower.  These include an outdoor swimming pool, yoga/pilates studio, weight room, sauna and steam rooms.

Prices start at $260K for a 655 sq/ft one bedroom suite in the courtyard building and $238K for a 538 sq/ft one bedroom in the tower.  Add an extra $28K for a parking spot.
